Samantha Soon, PhD
Independent Linguist | Translation & Multilingual Language-Data Consultant

Hello,
a bit about me:
I am a Sydney-based Malaysian linguist with a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Sydney.
I work across phonetics, phonology, multilingualism, language documentation, translation, and language-data evaluation. As a multilingual who has grown up with the exposure of various contact languages, I am interested in contact languages and its' variations. Some of the languages I have investigated are Kwényï, an Oceanic language of New Caledonia, Penang Hokkien and Singapore English. My specific research interests are: tone, contact-induced phonological change, language documentation, socio-phonetics.
I am currently building an independent linguist practice offering research support, phonetics/phonology consultation, multilingual language-data review, and selected teaching or workshop projects.
